Let’s break down the question, “What do you do at a women’s ministry?”

1. Women’s Bible Studies

What happens at a Women’s Bible Study: Women’s groups often gather for Bible study sessions to deepen their understanding of scripture and strengthen their faith.

Women’s Bible study is an inspiring and nurturing Christian gathering that aims to empower women with a deep and meaningful understanding of the Bible.

It offers a safe and supportive space for women to explore and discuss Scripture, helping them to grow in their faith and apply its teachings to their everyday lives.

These studies provide a beautiful opportunity for women to connect with one another, fostering a sense of community and encouragement as they journey together in their spiritual walk.

This women’s Bible study often extends over several weeks or months, allowing women to delve deeply into the scriptures and develop a strong foundation for the topic being covered.

This may include exploring passages, learning about biblical history and culture, and gaining insights into theological principles. The group may do Priscilla Shire’s 5 Ps.

These sessions are often led by experienced Christian women who guide discussions and provide context.

2. Prayer Meetings!!!

Prayer meetings create a beautiful space for individuals to come together, fostering deep spiritual connections and offering heartfelt support to one another during times of need through the SUPER power of prayer. Find some prayers for women groups here.

The women can gather to commune with God through prayer, seeking spiritual guidance, comfort, and a deeper connection with their faith.

The women’s prayer meeting can start with a time of worship or praise through singing songs of devotion.

Scripture readings may follow, providing a scriptural foundation for the ensuing prayers. The heart of the meeting revolves around intercessory prayer, where attendees pray on behalf of individuals, communities, or even global concerns.

It is always nice for women to share their petitions, thanksgiving, and requests, creating an environment of mutual support and spiritual unity.

These prayer meetings really can serve as a vital opportunity for believers to strengthen their relationship with God and each other while also seeking God’s intervention, restoration, and help.

3. Fun fellowship luncheons

Hosting luncheons or potluck dinners provides opportunities for socializing and building strong bonds within the group.

At a women’s ministry luncheon, attendees come together for community, spiritual nourishment, and connection.

The event typically begins with a warm welcome and an opening prayer, setting a reverent tone.

As women gather around tables to enjoy a meal, they engage in heartfelt conversations, fostering fellowship and building strong bonds. Check out my icebreakers here.

Some luncheons may include inspirational talks or testimonies from fellow church members, providing encouragement and insight into faith and life.

Worshipful music may fill the air, lifting spirits and creating an atmosphere of gratitude.

These gatherings offer a valuable space for women to share their faith journeys, offer support, and strengthen their ties within the church community while enjoying delicious food and uplifting company.

A well-organized agenda for a church women’s luncheon can help ensure that the event runs smoothly and meets its intended goals of fellowship, spiritual enrichment, and community building. Would you like to see an agenda for a women’s prayer breakfast? Click here.

4. Networking and Fellowship

This agenda can be adjusted to fit the specific goals and preferences of your church women’s group and the time available for the luncheon.

Also, could you consider incorporating elements that align with your group’s mission and the needs of your members? If you have lots of senior ladies who don’t know one another, what do you do at a women’s ministry? You get them together!

Create a “Keenagers” (not teenagers) group for them or a knitting circle. The young women could bring refreshments and even kiddos to brighten up the place.

5. Community Outreach

Women’s groups often organize and participate in various community service projects, such as volunteering at local shelters and food banks, or organizing fundraisers for charitable causes.

Some examples include:

  • organizing food drives or meal deliveries to support families in need
  • participating in local park clean-up initiatives to enhance public spaces
  • volunteering at nursing homes or hospitals to provide companionship to residents
  • sewing or knitting items like blankets or clothing for those experiencing hardship
  • mentoring or tutoring children and young adults to promote education and personal development
  • hosting fundraising events to support charitable causes.

Women can help strengthen the communities and bring glory to Jesus, all while fostering connections with one another. Don’t you love it???

6. Retreats and Workshops

Retreats and workshops offer a chance for women to step away from their daily routines, reflect on their faith, and learn new spiritual practices.

These retreats offer a unique and transformative experience, typically taking place over a weekend or several days in a serene and spiritually nourishing environment. Our church often selects a hotel close by to create a staycation feel.

During Christian women’s retreats, attendees can expect a variety of activities and elements that foster spiritual growth, fellowship, and renewal.

This may include prayer and worship sessions, Bible studies or inspirational talks led by guest speakers or clergy, group discussions to explore personal faith journeys, and quiet reflection and meditation opportunities.

Retreat ladies often engage in team-building activities, artistic expressions of faith, and recreational pursuits to promote bonding and relaxation. One year, our church had a women’s pajama party during a women’s retreat. It was so much fun!

Overall, Christian women’s retreats provide a consecrated space for women to deepen their relationship with God, strengthen their connections with one another, and emerge spiritually refreshed and empowered to face the challenges of daily life with renewed faith and purpose.

Still unsure what do you do at a women’s ministry? The previous paragraph tells you point blank.

7. Craft and Creative Workshops

Frankly, this might be one of the most common activities at women’s ministry groups.

Ask any Christian woman on the street the question, “What do you do at a women’s ministry? Name four activities,” and I bet crafts will be named.

Many women’s groups engage in craft activities, such as knitting, quilting, or painting, which can also be used for charity projects. Read my post on activities to get ideas. See below.

8. Women’s Health and Wellness Events

Workshops and events related to physical and emotional health can empower women to take care of themselves.

I had not heard of a church doing a health fair until I married my husband. These events were for the entire church, but one just for women has also happened at the church.

A women’s health fair promotes women’s well-being and provides valuable health-related resources.

At such fairs, attendees can expect a wide range of activities and offerings focused on various aspects of women’s health. These may include:

  • Free health screenings for conditions like blood pressure, cholesterol, and breast cancer
  • Informational booths and seminars covering nutrition, fitness, mental health, reproductive health, stress management, and self-care workshops.
  • Weight-loss classes (ask someone from your local WW)

Women’s health fairs often feature local healthcare providers, specialists, and organizations, allowing attendees to ask questions, gather educational materials, and connect with healthcare professionals.

What do you do at a women's ministry?

If you have a healthcare professional in your church, ask them to speak to the ladies.

Additionally, many health fairs offer fitness demonstrations, healthy cooking demonstrations, and opportunities to explore products and services designed to support women’s health and well-being.

Overall, women’s health fairs serve as informative and empowering events, equipping women with the knowledge and resources they need to prioritize and maintain their health. So, what do you do at a women’s ministry? We learn how to be healthier versions of ourselves.

9. Book Club

Women’s groups often form book clubs to read and discuss books with religious, inspirational, or thought-provoking themes.

A Christian women’s book club is a gathering of female believers who come together to read and discuss books with Christian themes, spiritual insights, or moral lessons.

These book clubs offer an opportunity for women to combine their love of literature with their faith, fostering intellectual and spiritual growth. Here’s what typically happens at a Christian women’s book club:

  1. Book Selection: You all can select a Christian-themed book to read collectively. The book may be fiction, non-fiction, a memoir, or even a study guide focused on a specific aspect of faith.
  2. Reading Assignment: The group decides on a reading schedule, breaking the book into manageable sections to be read before each meeting.
  3. Discussion: During the meetings, women discuss the book thoughtfully. They may explore the characters’ moral dilemmas, discuss theological themes, and share personal reflections on how the book relates to their faith and life.
  4. Prayer: Book club meetings often begin or end with prayer, where members can express gratitude, seek understanding, or ask for guidance related to the book’s content.
  5. Biblical Connection: Besides discussing the book, the group should connect its themes to relevant Bible passages or biblical teachings, providing a deeper Christian perspective.
  6. Fellowship: Women’s book clubs often include time for fellowship and bonding, allowing members to build strong relationships with one another and offer mutual support.
  7. Refreshments: Some ladies’ book clubs incorporate refreshments or meals, providing an enjoyable and welcoming atmosphere for discussion. Gotta have food! What do you do at a women’s ministry? We eat! That’s what we do!
  8. Rotating Leadership: Leadership roles, such as selecting books, facilitating discussions, and organizing meetings, may rotate among members to encourage participation and shared responsibility.
  9. Guest Speakers or Authors: Occasionally, you guys may invite guest speakers or even the book’s author to attend a meeting, providing unique insights and opportunities for interaction.

Christian women’s book clubs combine literature, faith, and FANTASTIC fellowship, creating a space where ladies can grow intellectually and spiritually while building meaningful connections with other believers.

What do you do at a women’s ministry?
A whole lot! That’s what!

These activities that I’ve listed all serve to help women in the church connect with one another, grow in their faith, and serve their communities in meaningful ways.

As you can see, the specific activities can vary widely based on the group members’ denomination, location, and interests.

Additionally, women’s ministries may offer Christian women’s mentoring programs, where seasoned women of faith guide and support younger women in navigating various aspects of life.

This mentorship can cover areas such as marriage, motherhood, career development, and spiritual formation, serving as a source of wisdom and encouragement along the way.

Ultimately, the heart of a women’s ministry lies in creating a nurturing and safe space where women can connect with one another, deepen their faith, and grow into the women they are called to be.

It can provide a safe, Spirit-led platform to cultivate female leadership, foster personal development, and inspire women to positively impact their families, communities, and beyond.

So, if you find yourself at a women’s ministry, expect a beautiful tapestry of worship, learning, fellowship, and outreach.

It’s a space where you can embark on a transformative journey surrounded by a supportive community of Christian women who share a common purpose: to grow together in faith, love, and service – all to the glory of Jesus.
