Bible Journaling for Women and Ministry Teams

Hi! I’m so glad you stopped by. In this Women’s Ministry Blog post, I want to talk about Bible journaling for women. Bible journaling has been an amazing and healing tool for my spiritual growth. So much so that I wrote a book about it! I also think it can be a soothing and blessed experience for women’s ministry groups. Who says every women’s ministry activity should be high-energy, crafty, and busy?

Anyway, here are my complete thoughts with examples, scriptures, academic support, journal prompts, diagrams, and leadership stepsโ€”plus information for my book, Processing Your Christian Journey by Teri Wilson.

Have you ever read a scripture that felt like it was just for you?

OMG! I haveโ€”many times. Each time, the words feel as if they are speaking directly to my heart. They resonate with my current situation or emotional state.

Powerful!

Itโ€™s almost as if the Lord is trying to guide me, offering wisdom and comfort in moments I need it the most.

For me, these verses provide clarity and reassurance, grounding me during times of uncertainty.

Shucks, they often just encourage me to continue on in my day!

Doesn’t it amaze you? I mean the power of scripture and how it can be genuinely transformative, creating connections and insights that inspire personal growth and reflection in our everyday lives.

I love those moments with Jesus.

Unfortunately, these are not the only moments I have with Him.

Iโ€™ve also had moments when I forgot that verse days later because I didnโ€™t pause long enough to reflect. Thatโ€™s where Bible journaling comes in.

Bible journaling for women is more than coloring pretty pages (though that’s fun, too!).

Itโ€™s about slowing down, letting God’s Word settle in your heart.

Bible journaling for women can also be about responding to the work of the Holy Spirit with creativity and honesty.

My creativity is limited, but my illustrations are simple.

Others can be amazingly beautiful!

Anyway, whether you’re an artist or a stick-figure girl like me, Bible journaling can help you grow spiritually while creating a meaningful personal record of your journey.

As you continue to read, remember that as a women’s ministry leader.

Bible journaling is a reflective practice that combines scripture reading with personal reflection, prayer, and artistic expression.

I think it can take many forms:

  • Writing personal reflections or prayers in a notebook or journaling Bible

  • Highlighting, underlining, and margin-noting scripture

  • Drawing, coloring, or using stickers to visualize verses

  • Creating themed pages around specific life seasons

You donโ€™t need to be an artist or a Bible scholar to lead a Bible journaling for women.

You just need a willing heart and a little guidanceโ€”which Iโ€™m here to give. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bible journaling for women has so many research-based and Bible-based benefits.

I want to highlight a few to give you a complete picture of what you can do with an activity focused on Bible journaling for women.

Think of your women’s ministry as you read each one.

When we write things down, we process them more deeply.

Dr. James Pennebaker, a psychologist at the University of Texas, found that expressive writing improves emotional and physical well-being. This aligns with the biblical principle in Habakkuk 2:2:
โ€œWrite the vision and make it plainโ€ฆโ€

Writing what God reveals in scripture allows it to penetrate your heart more meaningfully. I am convinced of this!!!

You donโ€™t just read Godโ€™s promisesโ€”you respond to them.

Journaling helps you pour out your heart before Godโ€”something David modeled beautifully in the Psalms.

โ€œTrust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.โ€ โ€“ Psalm 62:8

Through Bible journaling, you bring your stress, questions, and confusion to the Lord and leave them there. It helps me “cast my cares” on Him. As I writeโ€”and especially as I do this in a group settingโ€”I’m able to abandon the worries about that day and that memory.

Does that make sense? Let me know below.

3. Creates a Spiritual Legacy

Your journal becomes a testimony, Christian Sister!

Years from now, you may look back and say, โ€œGod brought me through that.โ€

I think the best part is that your kids or mentees may even benefit from reading your journey.

Meet My Bible Journaling Book

Processing Your Christian Journey
By Terri Wilson

I wrote this book for women just like youโ€”curious about journaling but unsure where to start. Inside, youโ€™ll find:

Bible journaling for women
  • Guided prompts
  • Themed reflection sections (e.g., trusting God, dealing with fear, celebrating growth)
  • Scripture-based encouragement

You can find it now on Amazon or click here to view it online .

Allow me to speak to you directly, and you can imagine how you could customize this for a women’s ministry event.

  • Journaling Bible or blank notebook
  • Pen, highlighters, or colored pencils
  • Washi tape, stickers, or stencils (optional but fun!)
  • Your Bible and a quiet space

Tip: Donโ€™t overthink the tools. Use what you have. The Holy Spirit will meet you there.

Here are some starter verses:

  • Psalm 119:105 โ€“ โ€œYour Word is a lamp to my feetโ€ฆโ€
  • Jeremiah 29:11 โ€“ โ€œFor I know the plans I have for youโ€ฆโ€
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 โ€“ โ€œTrust in the Lord with all your heartโ€ฆโ€

Start smallโ€”just one verse. Let it breathe.

Ask:

  • What does this verse reveal about God?
  • What is He saying to me personally?
  • What do I need to change, do, or celebrate?

Write your answers in your journal or margin.

  • Sketch symbols (cross, heart, road)
  • Write key words in big lettering
  • Add doodles, stencils, or color coding

Reminder: Your journal is not about perfectionโ€”itโ€™s about presence.

  1. What is God teaching me in this season?
    Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1

  2. Where do I need to trust Him more?
    Scripture: Proverbs 3:5โ€“6

  3. How do I define my identity in Christ?
    Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17

  4. What fears do I need to surrender?
    Scripture: Isaiah 41:10

  5. How has God shown up for me recently?
    Scripture: Lamentations 3:22โ€“23

Here’s a suggested layout you can share with your group or use in your own journaling:

  2. Scripture & Short Devotional (10โ€“15 minutes)
  3. Journaling Time (30โ€“40 minutes)
  4. Optional Sharing (15 minutes)
  5. Closing Prayer & Encouragement (10 minutes)

Optional Add-On: Provide each woman with a copy of Processing Your Christian Journey to take home and continue the practice.

Here are a few ways to stay consistent:

  • Set a weekly Bible journaling day (ex: Sunday evenings)
  • Pair it with your morning coffee or bedtime routine
  • Use journaling as a response to sermons
  • Invite a friend or small group to join you monthly

Youโ€™ll be surprised how journaling shapes your spiritual sensitivity, calms anxiety, and brings peace.

I do not have to tell you that we live in a fast, noisy world.

Girl!

But Godโ€™s Word invites us to slow down, reflect, and draw close.

I hope this post reveals and confirms that Bible journaling for women isnโ€™t about how artistic you areโ€”itโ€™s about being authentic in the presence of God.

Itโ€™s about growing, healing, remembering, and celebrating.

If youโ€™ve never tried it, nowโ€™s the perfect time. If youโ€™ve fallen off the journaling wagon, consider this your nudge to start again.

Processing Your Christian Journey is designed to guide you through the ups and downs of life with journaling pages, prayers, and scripture-centered reflections.

I have been praying about creating a workbook to accompany it. Let me know in the comments or on the YouTube channel if you think that would be helpful to you. ๐Ÿ™‚
