Sometimes the best ministry moments come from the simplest ideas. That’s why I wanted to write about acitvities for ladies church groups. See, I’ve noticed that women don’t always need an elaborate setup or a big budget to connect deeply. What we really crave is time together, laughter, encouragement, and a chance to grow in our faith. I’m learning that small, intentional touches often matter more than anything grand.
Here are three takeaways that will guide this post about activities for ladies church groups.
First, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to create meaningful fellowship.
Second, simple activities often open the door to the most authentic conversations.
Third, women come alive when they are part of something interactive and inclusive, even if it’s as basic as sharing a meal or telling their stories.
Why Simple Works in Women’s Ministry
In many churches, resources are limited.
But that shouldn’t stop fellowship from flourishing.
Think about the early church described in Acts 2:46. They met in homes, broke bread together, and shared life. It wasn’t about décor or big budgets. It was about unity. That same principle can shape our gatherings today.
This means your activities for ladies church groups can be simple and inexpensive.
I’ve written before about women’s ministry ideas for small churches and how powerful “ordinary” settings can be.
Keeping things fun and affordable makes ministry more accessible for everyone.
Here are a few activities for ladies church groups that cost virtually nothing!
Activity Idea #1: Story Swap Evenings
One of the most engaging, low-cost activities is hosting a story swap.
Women gather in a circle, and each shares a meaningful memory, testimony, or funny life story.
No supplies are needed other than maybe coffee or tea.
The power lies in listening and realizing how much we have in common.
This type of activity reminds me of Proverbs 27:17: “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” A story swap sharpens us as women because hearing another’s journey often challenges or strengthens our own.
The only material you truly need is a comfortable meeting space with chairs.
Optional extras might include index cards with prompts to help those who feel shy.
No pretense. No technology. Just fellowship.

Activity Idea #2: Prayer Walks Together
Another affordable option is to organize a prayer walk.
The group meets at the church or a local park and walks while praying silently or aloud for needs in the church, community, and world. It costs nothing but time. Some churches even create prayer stations along the path with scripture cards or prompts.
The challenge here is to shift focus from structure to presence.
Walking side by side builds closeness. It also helps women who might feel uncomfortable praying in front of a group to still participate by simply being present.
Senior ladies can be stationed along the walk, holding bright, beautiful encouragement signs they created.
All you need for this activity are comfortable shoes and perhaps printed scripture verses or cards for direction.
Activity Idea #3: Recipe Exchange Fellowship
Food always draws people.
Instead of planning a big catered event, invite women to bring their favorite recipe on an index card along with a sample dish. After sharing the meal, everyone takes home a stack of recipes.
This creates connection because every recipe has a story.
A dish passed down from a grandmother sparks conversation. It becomes a cultural and spiritual exchange in a way. It’s affordable, practical, and memorable.
Materials are very simple: index cards, pens, and the willingness of women to bring food.
I’ve seen this work especially well during holiday seasons when women are already thinking about food. It can happen anytime.
Maybe you can have a theme. As I write this, Fall is coming. Maybe the recipes could be Fall and Winter-inspired. Like great soups, pumpkin spice themes or more!
Activity Idea #4: Scripture Art Night
Many women enjoy creative expression.
Just the other day, my bestie and I went to a place called Ollies. Neither of us had been before. Well, while there we saw a whole area with affordable art supplies! My women’s ministry juicies were flowing! The dollar stores have watercolors super cheap, too.
A scripture art night gives them the chance to engage with God’s Word in a hands-on way.
Provide simple supplies like markers, inexpensive watercolor paints, and plain cardstock. Encourage each woman to write out a verse, decorate it, and then share why she chose it.
This activity turns into both art and testimony time. Some women may take their creations home, while others might want to post them in the church hallway.
The materials list for this one of my activities for ladies church groups includes cardstock, markers, paints or colored pencils, and optional frames from a dollar store.

Activity Idea #5: Service Project Together
Serving side by side builds community.
Plan a project that blesses your congregation or neighborhood. It could be assembling care bags for shut-ins, writing cards for nursing home residents, or packing snack bags for a local shelter.
Working shoulder to shoulder creates natural conversations and a sense of purpose.
It also reminds the group that women’s ministry is not only inward-facing but also a light to the wider community. Matthew 5:16 comes alive here: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Materials vary depending on the project, but could include brown paper bags, snacks, bottled water, pens, and cardstock for notes of encouragement.

Activity Idea #6: A Testimony Tea
A testimony tea is a warm, reflective gathering.
Women bring their favorite mug and a box of tea bags to share. The leader sets a relaxed environment where women take turns giving short testimonies of God’s faithfulness. The tea setting makes it feel intimate and approachable.
This kind of event often strengthens faith because hearing another woman’s testimony is a living example of Revelation 12:11. We are reminded that stories of God’s power help us overcome.
Materials are simple: mugs, tea bags, hot water, and perhaps a few light snacks.
If you have women with electric kettles, you can ask them all to bring them. If you’re super creative, have a “tea bar” or a pretty table that organizes the tea in pretty and appealing ways.

Thinking Creatively About Resources
If you want to stretch your budget, think about bartering or sharing.
I have been blessed with many friends in my area. Some of them are pastors’ wives like me. Either way, when I’m thinking of activities for ladies church groups, I know I can always call to see what they have that I can use.
Ask women in your church if they can donate supplies or use their gifts. Someone might be skilled at crafts, while another has access to a church bus for outings.
Here’s a simple list of categories and activities for ladies church groups table that might help you brainstorm affordable activity categories with sample resources:
| Activity Type | Cost Level | Example Idea | Resource Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fellowship & Stories | Free | Story Swap Evening | Chairs, coffee or tea |
| Prayer & Reflection | Free | Group Prayer Walk | Comfortable shoes |
| Food & Sharing | Low Cost | Recipe Exchange Fellowship | Index cards, food |
| Creative & Fun | Low Cost | Scripture Art Night | Paper, markers, paints |
| Serving Others | Low Cost | Community Service Bags | Snacks, notes, bags |
| Reflective & Faith-Based | Free/Low | Testimony Tea | Mugs, tea bags, water |
Building Connection Beyond the Activity
The activity itself isn’t the goal.
The real fruit comes from the conversations, encouragement, and spiritual growth that happen along the way. Sometimes I remind myself of Hebrews 10:24-25 and its call to “consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.”
That’s the heart of every women’s ministry gathering.
If you want to expand this further, check out this post. because many women show up to church events carrying heavy loads. A warm, affordable gathering could be just what they need.

Closing Thoughts for Activities for Ladies Church Groups
Takeaways from all of this are simple but powerful.
Women don’t need extravagant plans to feel loved. Fun and affordable activities invite everyone to the table, no matter their income or stage of life.
And when we focus on fellowship and faith over formality, the Spirit of God does the rest.
Here’s a challenge for you. Think of one affordable women’s ministry idea you could implement within the next month. Write it down and invite two women to help you make it happen. Small steps build big connections.
As you reflect, ask yourself: Which simple activities have brought me closer to other women in the past? Where might God be nudging me to step into leadership or hospitality? What story, recipe, or testimony could I share that might bless someone else?
That’s how fun and affordable activities move beyond the moment.
They become activities for ladies church groups that linger in the heart.
Women’s ministry doesn’t have to drain your budget to make a big difference. With creativity, prayer, and the right tools, you can build gatherings that bless women and honor God.
