A Short Devotion for Womens Group: Actually Three

If you’re looking for a fresh way to breathe life into your women’s ministry gatherings, you’re in the right place! This women’s ministry post includes three short devotions for womens groups. They are each designed especially for busy leaders, pastor’s wives, and volunteers who want to make every moment count. Whether you’re helping women build a daily Bible study routine, navigate daily stress, or gracefully handle difficult people, these devotions offer structure, inspiration, and connection. So grab your notebook, pour a cup of something warm, and let’s explore creative, Spirit-led ways to grow together in faith and sisterhood!

The FIRST THING YOU SHOULD KNOW: I want you to know I can spell. The reason you will see the phrase “short devotion for womens group” without the apostrophe is more about algorithms than it is about grammar. Thanks for understanding!

Building a Bible Study Routine: Short Devotions for Womens Groups

If you’re a women’s ministry leader or pastor’s wife, you understand how challenging it can be to strike a balance between everyday life and spiritual nourishment.

That is why I am always striving to come up with Bible study topics that are relevant and meaningful.

Creating a sustainable Bible study routine can be transformative! It can change everything!

This is true for any Chrisitan.

In this post, we’ll explore short devotion for womens group designed for busy schedules: one for managing daily stress, and another for handling difficult people.

Each devotion includes a suggested structure, facilitator script, journaling prompts, and timing. Plus, I’ll share how my books—Fun Ladies Activities and Bible Topics for Bible Study—can support your group in staying connected, refreshed, and purposeful.

Key Scripture: Matthew 11:28–30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Why It Matters

Every day brings responsibilities that can leave us overwhelmed—work, family, ministry, bills, relationships. A simple Bible study routine can help women in your group exchange their burden for the peace Jesus offers.

Structure at a Glance

  • Welcome & Ice-Breaker: 10 minutes
  • Scripture Reading & Reflection: 10 minutes
  • Guided Prayer & Sharing: 10 minutes
  • Journaling Prompt: 5 minutes
  • Closing Prayer + Encourage Routine: 5 minutes
    Total: 40 minutes

Welcome & Ice-Breaker (10 min)

“Hello, ladies! I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s start with something light: share one small thing that’s been weighing on your heart this week—not to solve it, just to name it. I’ll go first: I’ve been feeling the stress of juggling ministry plans and home life, and I’ve noticed it creeping into my days.”
(Pause for sharing)

Scripture Reading & Reflection (10 min)

“Today we’re focusing on Matthew 11:28–30. I’ll read it once, then again slowly. As you listen, notice any words or feelings that stand out.”
(Read passage)
“Let’s read it again together as a group.”
(Read together)
“Now reflect on this question: What would it look like to come to Jesus with your weariness today? Close your eyes and imagine placing that burden at His feet.”
(2 minutes silent reflection)
“Who wants to share what they noticed?”
(Invite 2-3 shares)

Guided Prayer & Group Sharing (10 min)
“Let’s pray together, asking God to carry our burdens.”
(Lead prayer)
“Now pair up for 5 minutes: pray for each other’s stress points cited earlier.”

Journaling Prompt (5 min)
“Reflect on one stress or worry you named. Write it down, then write a prayer asking Jesus to carry it with you.”

Closing Prayer + Encourage Routine (5 min)
“Lord, thank You for inviting us to rest in You. Help us to build routines that turn our hearts toward You each day. Amen.”
“Before we close, I want to encourage you: a simple daily practice—perhaps with a short verse and prayer—can bring peace into your day. If you’d like some more guided material, I wrote about this in my new book, Bible Topics for Bible Study. My other book, Fun Ladies Activities, also includes devotion ideas to turn into group routines.”

Key Scripture: Romans 12:17–21 – “Do not repay anyone evil for evil… Overcome evil with good.”

Why It Matters

Conflict and difficult personalities are part of life—even in church. Having a practical, biblical routine for handling these situations helps women respond with grace rather than react in anger.

Structure at a Glance

  • Welcome & Story Share: 10 minutes
  • Scripture Reading & Small-Group Reflection: 10 minutes
  • Role-Plays & Prayer: 15 minutes
  • Journaling Prompt: 5 minutes
  • Closing Prayer & Challenge: 5 minutes
    Total: 45 minutes

Facilitator Script

Welcome & Story Share (10 min)

“Welcome back! Today we’re tackling something real—dealing with difficult people. I’ll share a brief story: I had a misunderstanding with a fellow ministry volunteer. My first impulse was to respond defensively. But God led me to wait, pray, and try kindness instead. Now I’d love to hear from one of you: without naming names, share a time you felt challenged by someone but found grace.”
(Pause for one reflection)

Scripture & Reflection (10 min)

“Our passage is Romans 12:17–21. I’ll read the whole section aloud.”
(Read)
“Split into groups of three and consider: How could these verses apply to your story? What shifts might God be asking you to make?”
(5 minutes group reflection)
“Who’d like to share a thought?”
(1–2 reflections)

Role-Play & Prayer (15 min)

“Let’s try a practical exercise. Pair up or form trios. One person shares a difficult interaction they’re facing; another practices responding with kindness or silence. The third person prays silently for both.”
(10 minutes role-plays)

“Now group pray, asking God for wisdom and humility in those relationships.”

Journaling Prompt (5 min)

“Write down one verse from today’s reading – maybe ‘do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.’ Write a personal application: ‘I will…’ and set one small action you can take this week.”

Closing Prayer & Challenge (5 min)

“Heavenly Father, give us courage and gentleness in the face of conflict. Show us how to live by Your grace and truth.”

“Before you go, here’s your challenge: next time you face difficulty, pause. Pray through Romans 12. Consider my book Bible Topics for Bible Study—it has a section on conflict resolution. Fun Ladies Activities also includes interactive devotion suggestions perfect for study groups.”

Now that you’ve led the group through two session structures, it’s time to establish individual habits. Here are practical tips:

Step 1: Choose Your Daily Time

  • Morning (10-15 min with coffee)
  • Lunch break (10 min reflection)
  • Evening (before bed or during commute)

Step 2: Use a Simple Pattern

  1. Pray—ask God to speak.
  2. Read a short passage (Psalm 46:10, Matthew 6:33).
  3. Reflect—What stood out? How can this apply to stress or conflict?
  4. Journal—write 3–4 sentences.
  5. Pray again—commit to applying it.

Step 3: Accountability

  • Encourage group partners to check in weekly.
  • Use a Bible study planner (pages included in Bible Topics for Bible Study) to track consistency.

Personal Journaling Prompt

Help women deepen their routine with these prompts:
Stress Sessions:

  • What overwhelmed me today? How did Scripture comfort me?
  • Where can I invite Jesus to carry my burden tomorrow?
    Conflict Sessions:
  • What triggered a difficult reaction?
  • How can I respond differently next time?
  • Which biblical truth helps me reframe the situation?

Using My Books to Support the Journey

  • Fun Ladies Activities: Filled with creative group devotion ideas, printable prompts, and team-building scripts perfect for ministry events.
  • Bible Topics for Bible Study: Offers thematic studies on topics like stress, conflict, identity, and prayer—packaged for individual or group use.

Link both books in your member resources, study guides, and promotion materials for attendees and subscribers.

As with any women’s ministry effort, consistency is important. Women’s Groups benefit greatly from the same women attending for a few weeks. This builds rapport and a deeper level of comfort among the ladies, ensuring authenticity.

Structure consistency into your women’s ministry calendar with (I have great ideas for your calendar here!):

  • Weekly devotion times—10–15 minutes after small group or Monday morning coffee.
  • Monthly theme-based devotion events—stress, conflict, purpose, joy, etc.
  • Quarterly devotion retreats or day-long sessions focusing on deeper topics using your Bible Topics book.
