Isn’t that what it’s all about? If your women’s ministry blog is not found on the web, it is about as useful as a completely empty church. It’s not.
In this article, I will discuss some of the best SEO tips for a Christian ministry website and blogs – or at least what has worked for me.
Full Disclosure:
My blogs accomplish what I want them to accomplish for me. I am not making thousands of dollars a month from them. I’m only making a few hundred and I don’t write very often until I launched this one. But, most importantly, I know it is reaching people. I know people are getting what they need from them and that’s most important. My most popular blog gets around 10,000 visits a month. That may sound like a lot, but in the world of blogging, it’s peanuts. Still, I’m proud of it and thank God for it.

These are stats from Jetpack. I prefer Google Search Console.
Okay, with that said, let’s get started.
Let’s look at how to optimize your content for search engine rankings, use relevant keywords, and create backlinks.
I will also provide some useful advice on how to make sure your blog stands out from the rest. With these tips in mind, you can start optimizing your blog for better search engine results and reach more people with your message!
What message? I’m glad you asked!
Christian blogging promotes the message of Jesus Christ. It means you use a variety of narratives, stories, and processes to share Jesus’s love and power. It’s an internet ministry with words.
For Christian bloggers looking to increase their visibility online and attract more readers, SEO can be a powerful tool that makes sure you are found by those you want to find you.
For instance, you want someone to google a phrase and have Google serve up your ministry website like a steak dinner at a fancy restaurant!
Implementing effective SEO strategies into your women’s ministry blog practices can help it reach its full potential and attract the right audience. Here are 10 simple SEO tips to get you started optimizing your Christian blog for better search engine rankings.
Step 1: Focus on Keywords people will use to find your women’s ministry website.
Keywords are a vital component of SEO.
What are keywords? Well, the authority website Moz describes them as “they’re the words and phrases that searchers enter into search engines to discover content, also called “search queries.” You can read the article here.
Remember, one of the critical women’s ministry resources you have is your ministry blog. It’s your gateway to the women you want to bless and encourage.
Spend some brainstorming which words women will use to find your ministry website. For this site, my prayer is women will search for “women’s ministry help” and find me.
Frankly, in reality, they may or may not. They may get to me another way like by way Pinterest or Twitter.
It’s somewhat up to Google or the search engine to decide if they will direct people our way.
All you can do is set your site up for success by making sure your site is search engine-friendly. In other words, all you can do is do SEO – search engine optimization.
Indeed, the best way to find the most effective keywords for your Christian blog is to use a keyword tool like Ubbersuggest, SEMrush or Google Keyword Planner.
With these tools, you can research potential keywords and determine which terms are being searched for in relation to topics related to your blog. Identifying these keywords will give you an all-important edge in helping search engines find your blog and increase its visibility online.
Position matters too. Put your keywords as close to the top of your blog article as possible. It tells Google’s robots those words are important. Then sprinkled them throughout the article.
Here is a video from my FAVORITE SEO YouTube channel, Income School. See what they have to say:
Step 2: Make Sure You Have a Mobile Responsive Site.
Here is one I struggle with, but it’s so important.
Responsive design is an absolute must for maximum visibility and SEO performance.
With increasingly more internet users viewing ministry websites on their mobile phones and tablets, having a mobile-responsive site ensures that your Christian blog will be accessible to everyone regardless of the device they use.
Search engines like Google now prioritize sites that are mobile-friendly, so a responsive design can help improve the SEO rankings of your Christian blog.
3. Create Compelling Titles and Meta Tags.
Next are title tags and meta tags.
Title tags and meta descriptions are a key part of your Christian blog’s SEO strategy – just as keywords are.
Since Moz is an eminent source, in my opinion, I’m going to return to their article (click here to see it). They say the title tag is well..umm.. the title. 🙂
They also say the ideal length of your title is around “50–60 characters.”
No, you don’t need to count the characters. Instead, use MS Word on Windows or Mac to see how many characters you have in your title.
Step 1: Type your proposed blog title.
Step 2: Click “Review” from the menu.
Step 3: Find “Word Count” (to the left) and click it. The Word Count box appears.

This is an easy way to see how many characters are in your women’s ministry blog title.
Title tags are tricky for me because I’m often torn between a swanky “cute” title and one that will get me found. For instance, the title for this post could have been something like “SEO, You Need Some” or something silly or fun like that.
Instead, I chose the title I selected because it tells Google exactly what this post is about and someone may search for some variation of my [latest] title.

I changed it from this to what you see now.
Further, Moz.com also says to be careful adding too many keywords in the blog title. As a matter of fact, as I was researching to write this article, I changed my blog title about three or four times because I think I do this a little too much.
I think from now on, I will begin using a variation of my keyword for my title – instead of keyword “stuffing.”
You live and learn. When it comes to my own ministry website, I learn something new every day.
Step 3: Create Meta Tags and Women’s Ministry Blog
A meta tag is a short description of what your blog is about. Google often uses them for the snippets you see when you search for something.
I found a Google article that says snippets are created from site “content”. Make it easy for them to find it by bolding it and by creating a winning meta tag.
If you used an SEO plugin like Yoast or AIOSEO, you can easily add your meta tag for each women’s ministry blog post.
Create them to summarize what the article is about while making it sound super interesting! Do check out this Google article, here, it shares some good examples of what a good meta tag looks like and what to avoid.
Moz also gives some insight. Read their article here.

Additionally, you should include relevant keywords in both the title tag and meta description so that search engine crawlers and users can easily identify what your page is about.
Be sure to keep titles and descriptions under 160 characters so they don’t get cut off when displayed in search results.
Generate Quality Content with the Right Tone of Voice
Quality content is key to getting great SEO results. I’m not an expert writer, but I do my best.
To help draw more readers and maintain engagement, it’s important to select and craft the right tone of voice for your blog. As you can tell, my tone on this ministry website is casual because that’s my personality. In the future, I may allow guest writers. In which case, they may have a completely different tone.
The most important thing is to tailor your writing style to address different needs or topics related to your Christian topic. The substance is what matters.

4. Optimize Your Images to become SEO Friendly
Including images to supplement content is great for enhancing the readability of your blog posts. I try not to add too many here, but I do always have at least one. On GodsyGirl.com and MarriedtoaPastor.com, I am an image fanatic!
For certain, images are an excellent tool for SEO and are often limited to decorative purposes.
As you use them, make sure to take the time to add keywords and relevant descriptions for each image you use.
Additionally, it’s helpful to reduce the size of your images so your website isn’t slowed down by large image files.
Taking these small steps with your images can go a long way in helping them become SEO-friendly.
Track your traffic…
After running a Christian SEO campaign, it’s important to track your analytics and measure performance. Focus on keywords and phrases you targeted, as well as conversions, using tools like Google Analytics.
I visit Google Search Console as well.
If certain keywords do not perform better over time or conversion rates remain low, try to select different phrases and amplify the promotion of those through the different online channels mentioned above. This helps ensure that your ministry website remains at the top of search engine results pages and that viewers are engaging with your media in meaningful ways.
All this said…
SEO is a great tactic to ensure people find your site, but it’s not the ultimate decider. In fact, neither is Google, Moz, or the search engines I didn’t name.
The true determining factor is the Holy Spirit. He knows exactly who needs to find your content and He is in no way limited or inhibited by Google.
I recommend you do your due diligence, pray for His guidance and then trust Him to direct the people to your blog who need it.
